Corona lockdown: Breweries destroy millions of liters of beer because pubs and bars are closed and no major events have taken place for months.

Of course, beer also has an expiration date. And if breweries all over the world get stuck on their beer, then sooner or later the time will come when the beer has to be destroyed. This applies above all to draft beer, because in Germany, Europe and beyond, numerous countries are in lockdown or partial lockdown. In many states, pubs, bars, and clubs have been closed for months. Large events such as concerts and trade fairs also do not take place. And sporting events, such as Bundesliga soccer games, take place without spectators.

In Great Britain, for example, more than 50 million liters of beer had to be destroyed due to the lockdown. And a similar picture is emerging in Germany. More and more draft beer is getting closer and closer to the best before date or has already had to be destroyed. The breweries that offer Kölsch have also been particularly hard hit recently. The carnival was canceled due to the corona, which led to a significant drop in sales of Kölsch in January and February 2020.
